Issue 2: Filters - The Forgotten Heroes - Maximizing Projector and Bulb Life
That little foam filter in your LCD projector is often forgotten, but is in fact a very critical component in any projector. During each hour of operation, hundreds of cubic feet of room air circulate through a projector, cooling the high temperature bulb, optical path and electronics. The filter protects the projector's components from dirt and dust. Without a clean filter, the projector cannot cool effectively and the lifespan of the bulb and projector is reduced. Bulbs range in cost from $300 to $600, so a little maintenance can save you a bundle.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Safety first. If your projector is ceiling mounted, a step ladder or approved work platform must be used. Standing on a chair or table is a recipe for disaster. Also remember to unplug the projector's power cord before attempting any maintenance.
An LCD projector's filter should be cleaned approximately every three months in a clean office environment. In an industrial environment, or in an office under construction, filter maintenance should occur more often. The procedure for removing and cleaning the filter is generally a simple matter of un-clipping the foam basket, vacuuming, rinsing or blowing the dust from the filter (allow to air dry if rinsed) and reinstalling. Remember, some projectors have more than one filter, so consult your Owner's Manual for full details. After cleaning the filter, remember to reset the filter counter on the projector. If you encounter any issues, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
Avolution Multimedia can also perform the maintenance for you, including: cleaning the filter, lens and panels, and checking the overall condition of the lamp and projector components. We offer in house or on-site service. Call us for more details at 519-337-0177.
